Computing and Online Safety

Computing at ARH is taught across all year groups in both discrete and themed lessons. Children are given the skills to face the online world through lessons on specific areas of online safety and digital literacy as well as on safer internet day. This supports safeguarding children as it helps them to recognise the risks they may face online. Programming and computer science is taught collaboratively between students and teachers and uses initiatives such as Hour of Code week to support this. This promotes oracy as teachers and children work together to solve programming challenges. Our main programming language is Scratch 2.0 but other block languages are used to support children’s understanding of programming. ICT will be taught as part of the themed curriculum and is used to support other areas of the curriculum such as English and Maths. The three strands of Computing described here are clearly shown in our Computing and Online Safety progression documents to ensure knowledge is progressively taught from EYFS to Year 6.
