  • Meet the Orchestra with Albert's Band! "What's a xylophone?" "How does a violin work?" "This instrument is weird, what is it?" "What's the secret to a perfect drumroll?" If you've ever heard any of these questions (or wondered yourself!) and did not know the answer, you've come to the right place! The wonderful Albert's Band introduce families of the orchestra from their homes, which will answer some of these questions. In the video series, members of Albert's Band will present their instruments, show you how they make their sound, and play you some short pieces.
  • KS2 Music and Maths with Mike's Tuba Brought to you by The Royal Albert Hall's education team, these sessions, wonderfully accompanied by Mike's tuba, allow students to discover how they can use maths to create a piece of music. For these sessions make sure you have a pen, pencil, some paper, and something that you can shake, bang or play as a musical instrument. For Session 3 you'll also need a dice and a coin.
  • KS2 Music and Science with Mike's Musical Instruments Brought to you by The Royal Albert Hall's Education team, these sessions, wonderfully accompanied by Mike's musical instruments, allow pupils to discover how they can use music to discover the world of science. For these sessions make sure you have a pen, pencil, some paper, and something that you can shake, bang or play as a musical instrument.

The following resources include activities suitable for pupils in KS1 and KS2. Your child/ren will access them in different ways and at different levels. The most important thing is that they - and you - have fun!
  • WB 6th July - BBC Ten Pieces at Home This week it's all about beginnings and Beethoven with one of the most famous motifs in musical history - Da Da Da Duh! This is the final week of Ten Pieces at Home before we hand over the (conductors) baton to BBC Proms at Home. Keep a look out for what's happening by using the BBC Ten Pieces website. Have fun!
  • WB 6th July - Sing Up at Home The final song of lockdown from Sing Up is the upbeat, motivational song 'I Can See Clearly Now'. You will feel sunny and positive after singing this one. Enjoy
  • WB 6th July - Out of the Ark @ Home The final songs of lockdown include 'The Tongue' and 'I heard a Blackbird Singing'. Have you enjoyed singing any of the other songs shared during lockdown? Why not go back to it and sing it again? Tell a friend about it too, and when you see them you can sing it together. Have fun
  • WB 29th June 2020 - BBC Ten Pieces at Home A piece for turntables (DJ) and orchestra? That sounds interersting! This week get moving and create turntable inspired choreography. Using movements and gestures inspired by Gabriel Prokofiev's 'Concerto for Turntables and Orchestra'; join dancer Jordan Douglas, in association with Sadler's Wells, in creating your own table-top dance!
  • WB 22nd June - BBC Ten Pieces at Home This week you will create a news bulletin with the help of CBBC's Newsround. Write and present a news bulletin about the life and work of composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges using tips from CBBC Newsround presenter Hayley Hassall.
  • WB 15th June 2020 - BBC Ten Pieces at Home This week you will write your own story inspired by a mythical creature...oooh! Children's author Ivan Brett guides you in conjuring up your own story and mysterious character. Let the music of Mason Bates, played by the BBC Symphony Orchestra; inspire you in your writing.
  • WB 15th June - Sing Up at Home - Song of the Week This weeks' song is for Year 6...as it is a leavers song called 'Going Places'. We're sorry we won't be able to have a leavers performance for you, but have a go at this at home - or get your teacher to do it with you when you're in school.
  • Monday 8th June - BBC Ten Pieces at Home Ahh! One of my all time favourite pieces of music to listen to, shows to watch and music to play! Join Pixie Lott to find out about the piece of music 'West Side Story' and learn Cuban rhythms, create a kitchen percussion section and perform along to the lively 'Mambo' with percussionist Stephen Whibley from the BBC Concert Orchestra. Fantastic!

  • NEW! Monday 8th June 2020 - Sing Up! Song of the Week Are you a Disney fan? Then this song is for you! 'The Bare Necessities' from The Jungle Book. With a slight difference, you will sing, beatbox and perform tongue twisters in this fabulous arrangement of the song. Dress up too if you like! Get your onesie on, or an animal related outfit, but most of all have fun!
  • Virtual Choir sheet music - A Million Dreams Here's the sheet music. Even if you can't read music yet, it might be worth having a look and see if you can follow the pattern of the notes as they move up and down, following the pitch of the song. You will probably sing the top line - soprano. If you have a slightly lower voice, you might sing the alto (middle) part. If your voice has broken (boys), you might want to have a go at the lowest part (tenor).

  • Monday 20th April 2020 - BBC Ten Pieces at Home BBC Ten Pieces have designed weekly activities that are easy to do at home. Each includes a Ten Pieces film to watch and enjoy and a linked creative activity that can be completed by children at home without any special materials or preparation. A perfect, simple and easy way to keep listening, enjoying and creating music at this time.
  • EXCITING theatre-themed home learning with The Royal Opera House! Is your child a fan of the theatre, performing arts, dancing, singing etc? Then this might well be for them. This programme includes activities to learn about opera in a fun and interactive way - creating an invitation, having a sneak back stage, creating a dance all about themselves and learning a song for Hansel and Gretel. Most activities are for 5 to 11 years olds (some support may be needed for the younger children), with the singing activity for 8 to 11 year olds. Have fun!

  • The Music Show Great cartoon videos to learn about or recap the basics of music such as beat, rhythm and pitch. The videos are around 5 minutes each. NB: this is a YouTube resource - please set up and forward through any adverts that are unsuitable for your child/ren.
  • SFS Kids A great way to learn about the instruments of the orchestra and musical ingredients such as pitch, tempo and dynamics.
  • Prodigies music lessons A free subscription page on Youtube and more suitable for younger pupils. There are some great videos to learn the basics of music and to sing along with.
  • BBC Ten Pieces for Primary Schools Suitable for KS2 pupils, the BBC Ten Pieces is a fantastic resource with great videos to introduce young people to all sorts of music and composers. Don't worry about following the lesson plans!
  • Twinkl You can sign up for a free account to use during school closures. Go to the webpage and use the code UKTWINKLHELPS to set up a free account. There are lots of music activities available. Choose the applicable heading - EYFS, KS1 or KS2 and use the drop down list to go to music. Choose your activities from there.
