KS2 Music

Music is taught to all pupils in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 by Mrs Bell. 

Year 3 and 6 receive half a year of music - for 2019/20 Year 6 will be taught in Autumn 1, Spring 1 and Summer 1; and Year 3 will be taught in Autumn 2, Spring 2 and Summer 2. 

 

The pupils will develop their KS1 music skills through progressive listening, performing, improvising and composing opportunities.

Spring 1

Year 3 do not have music this half term. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Spring 1

The pupils will learn about the music of Steve Reich, Animusic and Stomp. They will use this music as inspiration to create their own rhythms, layered and combined to create a range of textures, dynamics and musical interest.  

 

 

 

 

Spring 1

The pupils will develop their playing from Year 4, of the baby scratch and release scratch on the turntables. They will learn and perform a scratch piece combining both scratches, to a partner or the class.

 

 

 

Spring 1

The pupils will learn to play and perform the baby scratch and release scratch in this turntablism unit. They will learn how to read an adapted version of the Turntable Transcription Method (TTM), and will perform a piece to a small audience.

 

 

Spring 2

The pupils will develop their singing in 2 and 3 parts through learning and performing the Japanese song 'Hotaru Koi'. They will create music based on the Japanese pentatonic scale 'Yo', a 5-note scale.  

Spring 2

The pupils will learn about the piece of music 'Appalachian Spring' by Copland and use this as a stimulus to create their own improvisations and compositions. They will learn more about the orchestra and will have the opportunity to attend the 'Orchestra Unwrapped' concert at the De Montfort Hall on Wednesday 1st April 2020.  

Spring 2

The pupils will continue to develop their turntable work by creating paired scratch compositions. They will perform these, with a backing track, to other pupils in the class.

Extended Music Curriculum

At present we have the following clubs and lessons on offer:

  • Years 2 and 3 - Ukulele Club (Tuesdays 3.15pm to 4.15pm)
  • Years 2 to 6 - Violin lessons (Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the school day)
  •  Years 2 to 6 - Drum lessons - small group (Thursdays during the school day)
  • Years 3 to 6 - Guitar Club (Mondays 3.15pm to 4.15pm)
  • Years 3 to 6 - Percussion Club (learn the drum kit, samba drums and glockenspiels, working towards a performance in the Summer Term) (Wednesdays 3.15pm to 4.15pm)
  • Years 5 and 6 - Steel Pans Club (Thursdays 3.15pm to 4.15pm)
  • Years 2 to 6 - Fife and flute lessons (Fridays during the school day)
  •  Year 4 to 6 - Choir (Tuesday lunchtime) Membership by audition only
